I LOVE ANYTHING CREATIVE AND FUN! FROM PAINTING AND WRITING TO ROCK CLIMBING AND BEACHING OUT WITH A FEW DRINKS, THE CRUCIAL FACTOR TO ENJOYING ALL OF THAT IS TO HAVE THE RIGHT FOLKS WHO CAN APPRECIATE THE SAME BEAUTY.
Reflective - I think three words can't be enough.
Optimistic - Surely, more words can be used.
Greedy - That gives me three more words... Sentimental. Adventurous. Zestful!
What's your greatest career achievement so far?
Undoubtedly, the success of the Yellow Ribbon Project. More Singaporeans now understand the need to provide support for ex-offenders committed to leading responsible lives, and more employers and volunteers have come forward to demonstrate their acceptance and support. I am frequently humbled by the true stories that ex-offenders share about their journey of rehabilitation and how they need to earn a second chance from their families and society.
Who's your corporate hero? Why?
Harold Burson – the founding chairman of Burson-Marsteller. He is easily the century's most in?uential public relations ?gure. His de?nition of public relations as managing perceptions is one of the best representations of the work that I am doing. I respect how Harold walks the talk. At 88 years old, he still makes the effort to visit different Burson-Marsteller of?ces around the world to know what is happening on the ground.
What is the best advice you've received in your career?
Don't get lost in the motion. Many of us are focused on delivering our work and meeting deadlines but we also need to understand the bigger picture. Whether your work is only a means or a means to an end depends on how much you understand why you do what you do.
What has been the greatest challenge you've ever faced?
It's always a challenge to say NO. Although this trait is overly-attributed to being Asian, I believe that there is a need to rise to the occasion and make a decision, executive or personal. Having said that, saying YES to crazy propositions has led me to some of the most memorable experiences too. Conquering Mount Kinabalu, one of the tallest mountains in Southeast Asia, began when I said YES.
Why do you think you should win?
I should win because everyone has a choice and I'm choosing to have fun, make the best out of this competition, and be the last man standing.
What is the one thing that you cannot live without?
My 10 seasons of FRIENDS. Beyond the great entertainment the sitcom provides, it also reminds me of my growing up years. My best friend and I even went to this cafÉ near Serene Centre during our school days just because they played the sitcom for diners. And it was really sentimental when we had a watch-together in my NTU hostel for the finale - seeing the sextet return their keys to the apartment.
Describe your fashion style?
I like colours and layers. I'm a huge fan of the preppy look too. Most importantly, I need to be able to carry off the look. Put me in a hip hop outfit and I'm gone. Yo. Gone.
